Biography: Alec Guinness was an English actor whose career began on stage, but who is best known for his film performances. He is known particularly for his collaborations with director David Lean, including Great Expectations (1946) and Oliver Twist (1948).

Guinness won an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1957 for his role as Colonel Nicholson in The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957). He also played Prince Faisal in Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and General Yevgraf Zhivago in Doctor Zhivago (1965).

He is perhaps best known, however, for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in George Lucas' original Star Wars trilogy: Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), and Return of the Jedi (1983).
