Why Famous: One of the main Russian opposition leaders, Navalny is the leader of the Progress Party and has been described as "the man Vladimir Putin fears most."
A frequent critic of what he calls massive corruption around Putin and Putin's allies, Navalny came second in the 2013 Moscow mayoralty election but has been repeatedly banned from running in elections, including the 2018 presidential election. He has been arrested and imprisoned several times.
Navalny termed the phrase "party of crooks and thieves" to describe Putin's political party.
