Alexei Nikolaevich

Tsarevich of Russia Alexei Nikolaevich

Profession: Tsarevich of Russia

Biography: Alexei was the last Tsarevich of Russia, the heir to the Russian throne. His father, Nicholas II, was the last Tsar.

He famously had hemophilia, which directly contributed to the downfall of the Russian monarchy. His mother's reliance on the mystic Grigori Rasputin to heal the Tsarevich led to various salacious rumors about Rasputin's influence on the monarchy and the royal family. These helped discredit the institution, especially during World War I.

Ultimately Alexei was taken into custody with the rest of his family following the 1917 Russian Revolution and executed shortly before his fourteenth birthday on 17 July 1918.
