Biography: Arthur Godfrey was a popular American radio and television personality in the 1940s and 1950s. He began his career in radio in the 1930s and quickly became known for his folksy, down-to-earth personality and his ability to connect with his audience.
Godfrey was one of the first broadcasters to gain a national following, and he helped to pave the way for other popular radio and television personalities. He was a successful businessman as well, owning several radio and television stations. In the 1950s, he was also a pioneer in the use of product placement on television.
Godfrey retired from broadcasting in the early 1960s, but continued to make occasional appearances on television.
