Profession: British Prime Minister
Why Famous: Augustus FitzRoy, the Duke of Grafton, was the youngest ever British Prime Minister when he assumed the office at 33 in 1768. Only William Pitt the Younger at 24, who later followed him was younger.
Born into a noble family, FitzRoy inherited from his grandfather the title Duke of Grafton.
From 1765, as a Whig, he held a number of offices including First Lord of the Treasury before succeeding William Pitt the Elder due to illness. Grafton only led for a short period, resigning in January 1770 after much criticism.
Grafton was the first Prime Minister to be divorced in 1769.
