Biography: Lincoln served as a major general in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War.
In this position he oversaw three major surrenders: of the British at Saratoga, of the Americans at Charleston, and of the entire British force in America at Yorktown.
After the war he served as Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts.
