Biography: Cindy Crawford is one of the most successful models of her generation. She originally began modelling as a scholarship student studying engineering at Northwestern University, before quitting to focus on modelling full time.

Crawford had her first big break in 1986 when she landed the cover of US Vogue. The magazine choose not to air brush out the mole by her mouth and it became her trademark. In 1988 she became the first major fashion model to feature in Playboy and later landed a major deal with Revlon cosmetics.

In 1990 she was part of the birth of the supermodel, appearing in George Michael's "Freedom 90" music video alongside fellow models Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington. The four later featured prominently in Gianni Versace's Fall/Winter runway show arm in arm.

Crawford retired from full-time modelling in 2000. She was married to actor Richard Gere from 1991-95 and married Randi Gerber in 1998. Her daughter Kaia Gerber is also a successful model.
