Biography: A moderate voice at the beginning of the French Revolution, Mirabeau favored the establishment of a constitutional monarchy based on the one existing in the UK.

By the time he died of natural causes in 1791, he was a national hero, but it was later discovered that he had been in the pay of Louis XVI and the Austrians ruined his reputation posthumously.
