Biography: Shore was the top-charting American female vocalist of the 1940s, later achieving even greater success in television as the host of several variety programs sponsored by the Chevrolet motor company.

While Shore initially auditioned for bands, including that of Benny Goodman, she was unsuccessful and pursued a solo career. This paid off when she was the first in an era known as one of 'big bands' to achieve a previously unheard of level of success while performing solo.
