Biography: Blaine was an American statesman and politician, serving twice as Secretary of State (1881, 1889–1892). He represented Maine in the House of Representatives (1863–1875) and the Senate (1876–1881).

Known by some as 'the Magnetic Man,' Blaine was renowned for his charisma in a political career which begun with support for Abraham Lincoln during the Union war effort.

His foreign policy oversaw a shift from American isolation to a much more active involvement beyond domestic borders.
