Biography: James Hetfield founded heavy metal band Metallica with Lars Ulrich in Los Angeles in 1981. He performs as lead vocalist and on rhythm guitar. As the bands main songwriter he is responsible for such anthems as "Enter Sandman" and "The Memory Remains".

Metallica are one of the most commercially successful bands ever and have sold over 125 million albums (2018). In addition they are the winners of 9 Grammy Awards. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.
