Why Famous: Jean-Luc Godard was a major director of the French New Wave period and produced one of its first and most famous films "Breathless" (1960) starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg.
He went on to make such films as "Le Petit Soldat" (The Little Soldier) (1961) the first of his celebrated films with the actress and partner Anna Karina. Success continued with other films such as "Le Mépris" (Contempt) (1963), starring Michel Piccoli and Brigitte Bardot.
