Biography: J. K. Rowling is a British author and philanthropist, best known as the author of the children's fantasy series Harry Potter. The series has been translated into 70 languages and sold over 500 million copies, as well as movies and video games based on the franchise.

Since writing Harry Potter, Rowling has also written an adult fiction novel, Casual Vacancy (2012), and the Cormoran Strike crime fiction series. She has also been involved in charity work for which she has earned many accolades.

More recently, Rowling has been embroiled in controversy regarding her stance on transgender people and civil rights issues in this area. Her views have been roundly criticized by LGBT+ advocates as transphobic. This controversy has caused havoc in the world of Harry Potter fandom.
