Why Famous: Admiral John Jellicoe commanded the Grand Fleet during the crucial Battle of Jutland in May 1916 during World War I.
At the time Jellicoe was criticized for his cautious tactics but history has judged him better for his strategic victory over his opposite Admiral Reinhard Scheer.
He later became the Governor General of New Zealand in the 1920s.
