Profession: Dictator and President of Rwanda
Why Famous: Habyarimana was the dictatorial President of Rwanda from 1973 until his assassination on April 6, 1993. A Hutu, Habyarimana died along with the President of neighboring Burundi, Cyprien Ntaryamira, when the aircraft they were travelling in was shot down in circumstances that are still disputed.
His death sparked the mobilization of anti-Tutsi militias across Rwanda, leading to the 100-day Rwandan Genocide, in which some 800,000 people were killed.
