Biography: As the first manufacturer of a razor with disposable blades, Gilette was inspired to invent something that could be used and thrown away, to keep customers coming back.

Working in collaboration with William Emery Nickerson, by 1903 the two had developed a viable and successful business.

Following the commercial success of disposable razors, Gilette refocussed his attention on promoting his views on utopian socialism.
