Biography: Montero Lamar Hill adopted the stage name Lil Nas X in tribute to the rapper Nas when he started he music career in 2018. His rise to fame was swift, he released the mega single "Old Town Road" in December of 2018 and through its popularity on social media platform TikTok became No. 1 for a record 19 weeks.

Nas X was controversially excluded from the Billboard Country chart, prompting racism claims. This was despite remixing his single with country star Billy Ray Cyrus among others. Nas X came out as gay in 2019, going to become the first openly LGBTQ person to win a County Music Award
