Biography: Widely regarded as one of the great midfielders of his generation, Modrić plays for Real Madrid and captains the Croatian national team. With the latter, he took Croatia to the 2018 Fifa World Cup Final, their first, though they lost to France. Modrić was awarded the Golden Ball for the most valuable player of the tournament.
In 2012 Modrić joined Real Madrid for a £30 million transfer fee, having previously set the club transfer fee in 2008 of £16.5 million when he moved to Tottenham Hotspur. He made his international debut against Argentina in 2006. Known for his adept tactics and strategy, he has won numerous Best Midfielder awards during his career.
