Biography: A major figure in the history of the New Zealand Labour Party, Fraser served as Prime Minister between 1940 and 1949. In this capacity he led the country through the majority of World War II, and formed a national political coalition containing several of his political enemies.
Serving as health minister in the government of Michael Joseph Savage, Fraser implemented the legislation which established a universal healthcare system.
After the war, Fraser actively promoted the Commonwealth and helped grow New Zealand's position globally.
