Biography: René Lacoste was a French tennis player, nicknamed "the Crocodile" for the way he dealt with opponents on the court. He is perhaps best known for creating the Lacoste tennis shirt, and for the brand which bears his name and logo today.

Lacoste was one of four French tennis stars, known as The Four Musketeers, who dominated tennis in the 1920s and 1930s. The other three were Jean Borotra, Jacques Brugnon, and Henri Cochet.

During his career, Lacoste won seven Grand Slam singles titles: French Open (1925, 1927, 1929), Wimbledon (1925, 1928), US Open (1926, 1927). He was world number one for the whole of 1926 and 1927.
