Full Name: Antonio López de Santa Anna
Profession: Mexican Politician and General
Biography: Santa Anna dominated Mexican politics in the first half of the nineteenth century and did much to shape the early foundations of the Mexican state and government. He served as President twelve times over 22 years.
He was also an adept soldier, and served as a general in several wars, including against Texas in the Texas Revolution and against the United States in the Mexican–American War.
He remains a controversial figure in Mexico, especially as the country lost half of its territory under his reign, and he was later overthrown and sent to exile.
