Full Name: Vallabhbhai Patel
Profession: Indian Freedom Fighter and Politician
Why Famous: The first Deputy Prime Minister of India and one of the country's founding fathers, Patel played a crucial role in the struggle for India's independence and in the crises that followed its sovereignty, including the 1947 war with Pakistan.
When in office Patel committed himself to unifying India's remaining princely states into a central Indian government, persuading almost every single one of them to join the country. He played a significant role in organizing the Indian National Congress for its elections in the 1930s and beyond.
The world's tallest statue was dedicated to him on 31 October 2018, at approximately 182 metres in height. It is named the Statue of Unity, in keeping with Patel's nickname of the "Unifier of India."
