Septimius Severus seized power after the death of Emperor Pertinax in 193 AD during the Year of the Five Emperors.

He went on to conquer all of Mesopotamia and made the farthest forays into England, conquering almost the entire island.

Under his reign, the Roman Empire was the largest it would ever be.
