Biography: Born in England to a Black American mother and an English father, Slash moved to Los Angeles as a child. He began playing bands before joining Guns N' Roses in 1985 alongside Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler, replacing some of the band's earlier members.

The heavy rock band went on to achieve phenomenal success in the late 1980s and early 90s. Their debut album "Appetite for Destruction" became the best-selling US album of all time, and sold over 30 million copies worldwide. One of its most successful singles, "Sweet Child O' Mine" famous for Slash's guitar solo and riff.

The band's success continued with their 1991 "Use Your Illusion" tour and the two albums they released later in the year "Use your Illusion I" and "Use Your Illusion II", which went to no.1 and no. 2 on the Billboard chart, a first.

The band's wild lifestyle mean their tour was often controversial, was responsible for inciting a number of riots by fans. After finding himself eventually unable to collaborate further with the band Slash announced he was leaving the band in 1996.

Since Guns N' Roses Slash has formed a number of successful bands including Snake Pit and Velvet Revolver and released critically acclaimed albums. In 2010 Slash released his first solo album featuring fellow musicians such as Ozzy Osbourne and Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister.

In 2016 Slash reunited and toured with Axl Rose and Guns N' Roses for the first time in 23 years. He was indicted intot he Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 alongside his fellow Guns N' Roses bandmates
