As the sister-in-law of Sun Yat-sen, the founder of the Republic of China, Soong played a prominent role in Chinese politics and was chosen as Time's person of the year in 1937 alongside her husband.
On the establishment of Taiwan, she served as the First Lady of the Republic of China from 1948 to her husband's death in 1975.
