Biography: Comic actor best known as one half of Laurel and Hardy, the classic double act that began in the era of silent films and lasted 25 years.

Laurel began his career in music hall in the UK and as Charlie Chaplin's understudy. Laurel later moved to Hollywood and began working in film from 1917.

He met Oliver Hardy working for Hal Roach Studios where their comic chemistry was spotted and the two formed a long and lasting friendship.
