Why Famous: Tove Jansson is the author and illustrator of the Moomin children's books.

Jansson wrote her first Moomin book about the family of trolls in 1945 and went on to publish a number of other books about the Moomin family, often basing the characters on her own family. She was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1966.

In addition to her children's books Jansson wrote adult novels and short stories and worked as an illustrator and graphic designer.
