Profession: Russian President
Why Famous: Putin has been in his second term as the President of Russia since 2012, having served a previous term from 2000 until 2008. Between 2008 and 2012 he served as prime minister in the cabinet of President Dmitry Medvedev.
While his rule in Russia has seen the economy, general living standards and levels of law and order improve drastically since he took office after the economic collapse of the 1990s, he has been criticized domestically and abroad for his increasingly authoritarian rule, his intervention in Ukraine and for perceived levels of corruption in the Russian government.
