Full Name: James Joseph Bulger Jr,
Biography: Whitey Bulger was a notorious Boston Irish crime boss who controlled the Winter Hill Gang from the 1970s into the 1990s partly due to his role as an FBI informant.
For years Bulger ruled the South Boston gang with violence, including a number of murders. He avoided prosecution for many years by informing to the FBI on Italian crime family activities. In 1994 Whitney learned he was about to be prosecuted and went on the run. Whitney then spent 16 years on America's most wanted list, often as the No. 2 behind Osama bin Laden.
In 2011 Bulger was arrested in the US and convicted on long list of charges, including murder, and sentenced to life in prison. He was killed by fellow inmates in prison in 2018.
