Historical Context
Completed in 2008, China's Spring Temple Buddha was the largest statue in the world until 2018. It was conceived after the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan by the Taliban in 2001.
The statue depicts the Vairocana Buddha and it stands 128 meters (420 feet) high on a lotus pedestal and on two further structures. It is located in Henan province within the Fodushan Scenic Area.
